The Satanic Bible – A Subjective Review

The Satanic Bible – that seems to be what Anton Szandor LaVey chose to call his extraordinary work. It is a book like any other and, apart from its spiritual dimension, it should be open to evaluation and review.

No one should be offended that I wish to review such remarkable material. It is nothing personal to me. A book like any other.

What questions does this article answer?

  • What is The Satanic Bible and what does it actually contain?
  • What was LaVey right to criticize?
  • How do these ideas connect with the book First War in Heaven: Legacy?

The Satanic Bible, which everyone screams is evil and possessed, is in reality a noble and intelligent book.

What is The Satanic Bible?

The Satanic Bible, a “stem of opposites,” is a work simple in structure and yet absolute. The Satanic Bible says that mankind used religion to conceal the Creator. In this sense, it attempts to defend what is found in the Judeo-Christian Bible and opposes “false idols.” In that respect, it remains a sermon-like work, perhaps even a prophetic one.

“Satan has been the best friend the Church has ever had, because he has kept it in business all these years.”

“Do unto others as they do unto you.”

“I break away from all conventions that do not lead to my earthly success and happiness.”

“There is nothing inherently sacred about moral codes. Like the wooden idols of long ago, they are the work of human hands, and what man has made, man can destroy.”

“The real Satanist is not quite so easily recognized as such.”

“You cannot love everyone; it is ridiculous to think you can.”

“The most dangerous of all enthroned lies is the holy, the sanctified, the privileged lie — the lie everyone believes to be a model truth.”

LaVey’s Message

Today, no one believes in God with a capital “G” anymore, but in fantasies and foolishness. Humanity sinks deeper into this, closing its third eye and ignoring the knowledge it possesses about the world and its possibilities. Anton LaVey, the creator of The Satanic Bible, gave the world a message in the form of his short but meaningful work.

The question remains: was he closer to Jesus than the Catholic Church and Christianity as a whole? Yes and no, but more than anyone might think.

This is my very subjective assessment, based on my personal interests and limited knowledge, which cannot compare to the knowledge of the great minds of this world.

What Was LaVey Right About?

He was right about everything. LaVey was a prophet of Heaven. He was not a speaker for Hell. I know that sounds strange given the many associations with the Church of Satan, but let us try to understand it calmly.

His Satan was a symbol, meaning an opponent. It is enough to analyze his introduction from 1968 to the now-infamous The Satanic Bible. He mocked and ridiculed humanity. They deserved nothing else, yet at the same time he concealed and passed on something that future generations should be able to see.

LaVey was waiting for someone’s arrival and even announced the time when that child would be born.

The Ritual He Introduced Was Supposed to Mock Human Foolishness

LaVey believed that the world is one great temple in which people must learn to live and cooperate with one another, but only by rejecting falsehood and stupidity.

There are thousands of beliefs and dozens of religions among people. It is hard to make sense of them. You cannot argue with them. You must ridicule them.

Moreover, he clearly said that the world of the body and of life itself would become humanity’s only road to eternity. Therefore, the message should be read as meaning that one must leave this temple and live in such a way as to improve oneself and become good.

According to LaVey, one should live outside religious influences. The Creator is everywhere. The world is our temple, our refuge. We must not limit ourselves.

LaVey, like Michel Nostradamus and Leonardo da Vinci, must be read properly. From the coming of Jesus to the fall of the world is only a moment. In which of those moments are we living? It all passes very quickly. Existence is only a small projection of death.

True Satanism

True Satanism is not a ritual with a virgin on an altar. That is how I read LaVey’s work, perhaps completely incorrectly. Spiritual values are disgusted by the body. Human beings give off smells, are ruled by emotions, and are worse than four-legged animals. Not because they smell, but because they consider themselves superior while living in filth worse than that of many pigs.

Speaking of pigs, they are naturally clean creatures, adopted by humans and thrown into dirt. That is where I see the problem: in breeding and adaptation, not in their original and possible nature.

Do you understand? LaVey understood that openly explaining things to people solves nothing, because in their stubbornness they will make bad choices and fail to understand the message. That is why the existence of the Church as an opposing institution makes sense, also economically and legally.

On the other hand, rituals attract attention — LaVey gave eyes and ears to those who want to see and hear. For the rest, it was only an emotional show.

Tired of Illusion

A beautiful, well-made-up person tempts others, but only for a moment. Once desire is satisfied, the veil of hypocrisy disappears. That does not solve the problem of existence, life, and the deeper emotions that define our path.

That is how it should be viewed. There are not many true opponents of human stupidity, because that is what LaVeyan Satanism could be called. In truth, the opponents of foolishness and human arrogance became “Satanists” — spiritual opportunists with an idea in the background.

A satisfied man becomes calm and wants to rest. The satisfied woman desires closeness and safety. A truthful person does not commit crimes. A Satanist walks the path of truth and opposes the evil of this world. That is LaVey’s way of thinking expressed through my example.

Possession and Other Acts of Weakness

All acts of barbarism or possession are inventions of humanity. People use them to satisfy their own corrupted egos. They frighten others with possession, yet nothing comes of it. It is simply a self-limiting mechanism that protects us from knowledge. Primitive, but effective. The Catholic Church uses it.

Is Possession a Human Invention?

Imagine the energy of Beliar (Satan), or another kel el (angel). Could a human survive resisting such a force? Besides, how could it even enter the body? The human body is closed, and the mind is properly protected. A kel el (angel or demon) cannot take over a human being. It can speak to a person or destroy them, but it never enters them. That is a humiliating absurdity.

The body is a prison for a kel el — who would willingly enter it?

There is a difference between reality and symbolism. Hell is not demons emerging from the abyss, and The Satanic Bible is not a spellbook that summons devils.

To Remain Silent About Armageddon Says Much About Beliar

While speaking about The Satanic Bible, I should also mention my own book, First War in Heaven: Legacy. I wrote the best biography of Satan that literature has ever known. I do not think giving him attention should be considered unforgivable. After all, he too is part of creation.

Beliar is largely unknown. We know there was a flood with Noah at its center. That is the Biblical account. In my opinion, it is a lie and a mystification covering up the murder of Beliar and his earthly family.

Beliar, during the age of giants, founded a settlement on the island of Ireland.

Beliar Descended to Earth

He took on a human body — he imprisoned himself. He took a wife and had a son. That son became powerful. His name was Asajaf and he was twice the height of a horse at the withers and as strong as two bulls.

They died because people did not like that they were doing better in life.

It does not matter that they earned everything through hard work.

Everything they achieved came through labor, yet even that became a problem. It was proof that integration with humanity does not work, that the joining of spirit and body fails, and that returning to Aldae-ika, the city of men in Erem — Heaven — only escalates another conflict.

Did the Creator pretend not to see it, or prefer to blame someone else entirely? Perhaps then He came to the conclusion that kel el should be eliminated in favor of humans. No one knows. I hope that was not the case.

The Bible, as well as the Book of Enoch, provide information about this “sin.” These books say that angels descended to Earth and started families. A sin? What irony and horror.

How should we describe the abuse of boys in the Catholic Church? Or the killings carried out by Israel against the peoples of the Middle East?

I Search for a Scale of Comparison and Cannot Find One

If we compare The Satanic Bible with my own book, we are dealing with things that seem different but are actually the same. The Satanic Bible is a simple framework, yet one suitable for a full evaluation of humanity and its fate.

My book First War in Heaven: Legacy is a description of the beginning of what caused the world we now live in, and an explanation of what happened.

LaVey searched for a future for humanity and tried to warn people in The Satanic Bible. In my own work, I explain why.

The principle of Heaven, of Erem, is simple: as long as the last kel el — the last angel — continues to fight, the war continues.

That reveals a certain determination and the power of what we may still have to face.
